Right now I’m reading a book called Peak by Roland Smith. This book is more for the upper elementary range, but I’m determined to share my reading adventures with this captive audience this summer. Peak is caught rock climbing a sky-scrapper in New York City early one morning. Not an adventure I would recommend for anyone!
After making a rookie mistake, Peak is caught almost at the top of his most recent climb. Looking to punish Peakfor breaking and entering to deter future climbers the city wants him to serve time in the juvenile system. Instead, Peak’s father offers to take custody and remove him from the country and media spotlight.
Which is why less than a week later, Peak finds himself about to climb Mount Everest.
I’m learning a lot about mountain climbing, the culture of rock climbing, and Mt. Everest by reading this book. I can’t wait to find out if Peak makes it to the summit!
I’ll check back in later with books more suitable for the younger crowd. Parents, don’t forget that your little ones like to be read to! Pick up a chapter book that looks good to YOU and read a little bit every day!

We’re all looking forward to summer vacation and having lots of free time. I really like having time to lie in the hammock and read in the summer. I also listen to a lot of books while I’m driving or walking or working in the garden. I think this summer I’ll listen to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince before the movie comes out. I love listening to the Harry Potter books–Jim Dale does such a great job bringing Harry and Hagrid and Ron and Hermione to life. And it’s been awhile since I listened to any of the books. So that’s where I’m starting. How about you? What are you reading this summer?
